The Coast Guard told BP that it has until the end of this weekend to find faster ways to stop the oil still gushing into the Gulf. But it didn't tell BP what will happen if it fails to find faster ways to stop the oil leak. Will the Coast Guard take over the operation, punish BP somehow for its failure, or just give them another week to come up with something? I'm guessing the latter.
I certainly hope the Coast Guard, or any other government agency, hasn't been sitting on better ideas or techniques while BP continues to botch the operation.

The Coast Guard has to issue threats. Because BP actually wants to let that oil flow into the ocean instead of being able to sell it.
I'm afraid some people actually believe that. Some are outraged that BP is selling the oil that they're sucking out of the leak. Some are calling for a boycott of BP. Yeah, let's bankrupt BP before they satisfy all their liabilities from the spill and jack up the profits of the other oil companies who aren't liable.
